The naval vessel is the British light cruiser HMS Belfast which visited Napier on the 8th March 1946 for a 4 day visit. She is now permanently berthed in the River Thames as a museum ship by the Toer Bridge. The ship nearest the camera is the Union Steam Ship Co collier Poolta discharging coal. She was in port from the 10-15 March Berthed at Geddis West opposite the Belfast is another Union Steam Ship Co vessel, the Kauri. She was in port 9-13 March. Berthed at Geddis East is the British freighter Darro She was in port 5-21 March. On that basis the photo would have been taken between 10-12 March 1946.
