View of a cove at Manawaora Bay in the Bay of Islands, possibly taken in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
The photograph has been taken from the shore of the bay. A row boat is moored near the shoreline. A man stands at the back of the boat with a paddle. A large pōhutukawa tree is located along the shoreline. An unidentified ship is visible in the bay.
A note on the album page reads: Cove in Manawaora Bay, Bay of Islands. Scene of the massacre of M Marion [Marc Joseph Marion du Fresne (1724?–1772)] and his boats crew (16) on 12 June 1772.
