Brief Description
Notes for a speech by Leo Bestall about his travels. There are two sets of notes. Circa 1939.
a) Speech regarding a trip to North America. Begins with a brief itinerary detailing travel by railway starting in Vancouver and Bestall's enjoyment of this mode of transport. He compares Napier and Santa Barbara as the latter was destroyed by earthquake in 1927 and rebuilt in contemporary styles. He talks about the landscape, especially the Grand Canyon. He also visited Chicago, Denver, New York, Washington, Toronto and San Francisco. Includes notes about the museums and displays that he visited during this trip.
b) Speech on a trip to England and other countries. Contents include general travel tips, impressions of London, details of the King's jubilee and a sighting of him, Easter Sunday evensong at Canterbury Cathedral, a week spent in Berlin comparing church architecture in various places and the publicity the All Blacks tour in England received. Some amendments have been made by gluing a scrap of paper to the back of the page in the desired place so that it can be lifted to read what is underneath.
