A view of Emerson Street after the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, looking towards Marine Parade. Sailors stand in the background, they assisted with the search for survivors. The photographer has captured men preparing to leave the area at the end of the day. The photograph was taken several days after the fire that started soon after the earthquake struck.
