About this object
Photograph of the wreckage of NZ104, a Vickers Vildebeest aeroplane that crashed into Lake Ellesmere on Friday 9th June 1939. The accident was caused when a wing of the aircraft hit the water during gunnery practice. Both the pilot and gunner survived.
NZ104 was used for training by the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF).
