About this object
A young girl observes the damage caused by the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake to the Queen's Chambers building, Queen Street East, Hastings. A sign on the verandah frontage advertises the business of D Balharry, Land And Insurance Agent [ground floor] and an upstairs window indicates it is the practice of J J Faulkner, Surgeon Dentist. The building has partially collapsed and rubble can be seen on the footpath behind a barricade.
