He is wearing the 2nd (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles Brigade badge and also the following medals: Military Cross, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal 1914-1920, Victory Medal, Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officer's Decoration, Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal, and the NZ Long and Efficient Service Medal.
The first 4 medals were awarded for WWI service. Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officer's Decoration was awarded May 1930; Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal was awarded March 1929, and NZ Long and Efficient Service Medal was awarded August 1924. This dates the photograph post 1930's but before 1939 and WWII.
