About this object
The photograph shows St Paul's Presbyterian Church in Napier under construction. Scaffolding extends to the top of the spire. Standing on the top platform are four men - architects Walter Finch and Louis Hay, two builders - and a woman, Thelma Williamson, who worked for Hay as a draughtsperson. As grand-daughter of the oldest member of St Paul's parish, Thelma was given the honour of placing the weathervane in position. Six weeks later the church was destroyed in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
