About this object
Commercially produced photograph by Percy Sorrell showing damage to buildings in Emerson Street, Napier, caused by the Hawke's Bay earthquake on 3rd February, 1931. Handwritten notes on the back relate to the Boyland Bros shop where the clothesline is, and describe how the buildings were all burnt by fire and the ruins had to be blasted and cleared before the city could be rebuilt.
