Object detail

Brief Description
Airgraph letter to Molly Hamlin from her brother, Sergeant Henry Hamlin, 6 NZ Division, 2 NZEF, dated 3 March 1944.

The airgraph was invented as a means of reducing the weight and bulk of mail carried by air. The airgraph forms, upon which the letter was written, were photographed and then sent as negatives on rolls of microfilm. At their destination, the negatives were printed on photographic paper and delivered as airgraph letters through the normal method. The service was extended to New Zealand in 1943.
