Brief Description
Part of a letter written by Fred Hamshar in Whakaki, Hawke's Bay, to his brother Tom in England, dated 8th October 1882. Fred acknowledges a photograph that Tom has sent of his intended. Fred confesses he has a girl of his own, a Māori girl whom he visits every Saturday. Ploughing has started at Whakaki. Fred recently travelled by steamer to Waihua with the intention of visiting his uncle [James Hamshar] who is very ill, but he had been taken to Napier Hospital just two hours before he (Fred) arrived.
