Brief Description
Travel diary handwritten by Charles Edward Nelson (Ned) Smith of Olrig Station recording highlights of a trip to Europe with his wife Elfie (Elfrida, nee Mayne).
The first entry is dated August 7th, 1924. Glued to, or inserted loose between pages, are ephemera such as German currency, business and visiting cards, an information leaflet about the Ossuary of Douaumont monument erected in memory of French and Allied soldiers who lost their lives in the battle of Verdun in World War One, hotel letterhead paper (including a sheet with the address of Mrs C Balfour of Fairlie), blotting paper, and tickets to the casino at Monte Carlo. Diary ends with an entry for December 15th (1924).
