Brief Description
Studio portrait postcard photograph of four New Zealand soldiers in World War One military uniform. Three of the men are standing, and the fourth, who has Sergeant's stripes on his sleeve, is seated and holds a cane.
Sent from Sling Camp, August 18, 1917.
Message reads: Dear Het, This is the nearest approach to a photo I have had taken yet so it will have to do. I would not have had it only the others dragged me into it one evening. I hate the sight of this damned khaki and will have no more photos taken with it on. The fellows with me all come from Wairoa and just now there are quite a few here. Dick Deighton and Phil arrived here on the 16th and are both looking well. I saw them last night and am going up again tonight. They were too busy last night to tell me much but will be able to have a talk now. I see there has been a lot of floods in H. Bay. Here it has been raining off and on for the last fortnight. I am still having an easy time but wish it was all over. When it is I am going to Clive for one of those feeds we don't get here. With best wishes from Fred (Prewett).
