About this object
Portrait of an unidentified Māori woman of Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Whatuiāpiti, Ngāti Papatuamārā descent. She wears a flax kahu (cloak) over a piupiu. She holds a sea shell in her hands while posing against a backdrop of painted waves. Her feet are adorned with strips of woven flax, and she has a woven headband and two feathers in her hair.

Date unknown, probably late 1910s/early 1920s.
