The photograph shows Ngaire Porter (Nyree Dawn Porter) in costume as Azuri, the role she played in the Napier Operatic Society production of The Desert Song in 1955. She is standing outside the back entrance to the Hastings Municipal Theatre. The handle of the knife her character used to stab a fellow actor is partly visible above the neckline of her bodice.
