Photograph of Veronica Harris, future wife of photographer Derek Brebner.
Veronica's mother was in the maternity home when the Hawke's Bay earthquake struck on 3rd February, 1931. Husband Jack Harris was desperate to find a name for their baby daughter who had been born a couple of weeks prior, on 22nd January. Captain H L Morgan from the HMS Veronica suggested that they name the baby after the ship, and they did.
