The photograph shows Hastings Street, Napier, looking towards Bluff Hill, five weeks after the Hawke's Bay earthquake. On the left is a building bearing the words: Accident and Marine. The Clarendon Hotel is visible at the end of the street, and on the right is the newly built Masonic Bar on the site of the former Masonic Hotel.
