Brief Description
Letter from John Davies Ormond to Francis Edward Hamlin regarding the expedition to Lake Waikaremoana in pursuit of Te Kooti. Ormond writes: Ropata and 300 men were there ….there seems every probability that Te Kooti is at Waikaremoana … get food from cultivations … it is most important if Kooti is at the lake to prevent his escape. Ormond suggests strategies to distract the enemy while Ngati Porou cut off Te Kooti’s retreat. He discusses potential movements by Ropata and Witty and advises that they all make their advance simultaneously. Ormond is also endeavouring to co-ordinate Mair and Preece on the Whakatane side to advance at the same time.
