Brief Description
Open letter by Captain G Withers, District Adjutant, on behalf of Lieutenant Colonel George Whitmore, following the victorious battle at Omarunui Pa. The letter describes the event, including the number wounded and killed on both sides, and offers thanks to those in command - Captains Kennedy, Fitzgerald, Buchanan, Rhodes, Birch and Gordon, staff officers Captain Hamilton Russell and Mr Agnew Brown, interpreter F E Hamlin, and Captain Withers. Whitmore also thanks the Native Contingent under Chief Yareha (Tareha), Hapuku, Ihaka Whanga (Whaanga), Renata, Kopu and Karaitiana, for the co-operation they and their followers lent the Europeans.
