The photograph shows the destruction caused to buildings on Shakespeare Road, Napier by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. The building on the right is the Empire Hotel and beside it, Avoca House. The debris in the forefront is the old Napier Post Office. Written along the bottom of the image is: Napier from old Post Office. No 31.
