About this object
The photograph shows the destruction caused to Hospital Hilll after the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. There has been a huge landslide with the result that the house at 6 Hooker Avenue is a teetering over the edge of the cliff. Traction engine(s) were said to have been used to pull this house back further onto the section.

This is not Bluff Hill but no 6 Hooker Avenue. We lived next door at no 8. The elderly lady living in this house was there at the time of the earthquake and said they had to use traction engine/s to pull this house back further on to o the section. Where we there, the foundations of the house here perched on the cliff were still able to be seen
