The photograph shows a group of employees seated in front of the Hastings Gas Works.

Behind the group can be seen a horse, and a cart with the word 'Coal' written on the sides. To the right are numerous drums, possibly containing gas. The staff are unidentified except for William Gigg who is seated in the front row, fourth from the left.
