The photograph shows the destruction caused to F G Smith & Company's new premises situated at Port Ahuriri, Napier by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
The front of the building has completely collapsed exposing the interior. The roof is sagging. The road has been cleared of debris. Stan Buchanan has written on the back: F G Smith & Co's new store at Port Ahuriri.
