The photograph shows the destruction caused to buildings in Emerson Street, Napier by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake and subsequent fire. At left, the walls of the Blythes building are still standing. The road has been cleared of debris. There is a car in the centre of the photograph.
