About this object
The photograph shows the damage, caused by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, to Ruffell's house, Chilton Road, Napier. The house has come off it's foundations and has tipped forward. There is a chimney on the right hand side which has remained standing as the house was ripped away. Underneath the photograph Ernest Sinclair has written: Ruffell's House Chilton Road. Rear side view. (High foundation in front and thrown forward some 20 feet owing to collapse of same.)
