About this object
The photograph shows the damage caused by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake to Ruffell's house, Chilton Road, Napier. The house has come off its foundations and has tipped forward. Underneath the photograph Ernest Sinclair has written: Ruffell's House Chilton Road. (High foundation in front and thrown forward some 20 feet owing to collapse of same.)
