The photograph shows the devastation caused by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake and subsequent fire, to the Standard Fire Insurance building in Napier. The building has been completely gutted by fire. Ernest Sinclair has written underneath the photograph: Standard Fire Insurance Office.
