The photograph shows the devastation caused by the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake and subsequent fire, to the business area of Napier. The St John's Cathedral Sunday School brick building is still standing in the foreground with the cross to the left. Ernest Sinclair has written underneath the photograph: Panorama of snaps of Napier Central.
