About this object
The photograph features a group of people standing around a bank safe, discovered standing alone after the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. The building in which the safe was housed has completely collapsed. In the foreground is a soldier with a gun. A man can be seen removing items from the safe. Underneath the image is written: Removing cash from a bank safe at Napier after the quake.
