About this object
The photograph depicts the remains of the Empire Hotel after the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. The Empire Hotel was situated on the corner of Brewster and Shakespeare Streets, Napier. The front has fallen away showing rooms still containing furniture. The roof has also fallen in. Underneath the image is written: Remains of Empire Hotel Napier.
