About this object
The photograph shows the Napier central business district after the devastation of the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
Smoke from the fires, that occurred after the earthquake, can be seen rising amongst the ruins. Part of the wall of St Paul's Presbyterian church is visible on the right. The Norfolk Pines along Marine Parade can be seen in the distance. There are people standing on the hillside to the left looking over the town.
