The photograph shows the South Africa War Memorial on Marine Parade, Napier. Behind can be seen the Masonic Hotel. There is some kind of construction happening directly behind the memorial. The trooper is facing out to sea which indicates that the image has been taken prior to the 3 February 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
