The photograph shows Sir Douglas Maclean holding the penny farthing he rode from Wellington to Napier, February 1876. John Foster Fraser is standing next to him.

Date, between 1896 - 1898. Sir John Foster Fraser was a British travel author. In July 1896 he and two friends took a bicycle trip round the world riding Rover safety bicycles. They covered 19,237 miles in two years and two months travelling through 17 countries and across three continents.
