The photograph shows the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Brebières, at Albert, Picardy. The photograph has been glued to a page in Leo Bestall's diary. Above the photograph Leo has written, On the Somme in 1916.

Underneath he has written: The Basilica at Albert showing the leaning virgin. It was believed by the French that when she fell the war would end. Taken from station yard awaiting train to take us away.
