About this object
The photograph shows men of the 1st and 3rd New Zealand Field Ambulance Medical Corps. The photograph has been glued to a page in Leo Bestall's diary. Above the photograph Leo has written, On the Somme in 1916. Underneath are the words: Thistle Dump where Nos 1 & 3 F Ambs (Field Ambulance) were stationed. One sea of mud with bivvies cut in the bank.
