About this object
The photograph shows three stretcher bearers standing in Turk Lane, a 2 metre deep artery that gave men moving to and from the front line a degree of cover. The photograph has been glued to a page in Leo Bestall's diary. Above the photograph Leo has written, On the Somme in 1916. Underneath are the words: Bearers waiting in Turk Lane, Mac, Cooke.
