About this object
Rouen, Vue generale. The photograph is glued to a page in Leo Bestall's diary and album. He has written under the photograph: We arrived from Boulogne early in the morning. The train comes out of a tunnel about where the camera must have been. The city was submerged in mist with the towers and spires protruding. The rising sun gilding these lovely pieces made a breath taking scene & one which made more impression on me than any view I have ever seen save possibly the first sight of Suez from the sea. Leo documented his visit to Boulogne on 28 June 1916.
