The glass plate negative shows Heretaunga Street, Hastings. The Carlton Hotel is on the right of the image and the Albert Hotel is across the road with the Biograph sign attached to the balcony. Biograph was an early form of cinema or film. In the centre is the Ranfurly Private Hotel. The spire of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church can be seen in the distance. There are people on the road as well as a horse and rider.
