Under the spreading chestnut tree. The smithy at Figheldean, Salisbury Plain which Longfellow celebrated in 'The Village Blacksmith' is written along the bottom of the photograph. The image shows a smithy shoeing a horse under a tree.

The photograph is glued to a page in Leo Bestall's diary and album. He has written under the photograph: Figheldean.
