Brief Description
The certificate was presented to Corporal William Ryan of 23/1770 for his services in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces during the Great War 1914-1918. The ornate certificate consists of red and black printed imagery including the Roman goddess Minerva or Victoria, a soldier with a bayonet, lions, an eagle, battle ships, floral motifs, Maori designs and the Royal coat-of-arms of the United Kingdom. The text reads:
