Brief Description
a. A letter addressed to my dearest Flora (Faulkner) from Patty (Maria) Webb, Stockingford Vicarage, 23 November 1874. In the letter Patty discusses Flora's trip to Clapham, the Nowell family who lives in their Parish and their eldest daughter who teaches Sunday School, Mr Nowell's sudden death and reading material. Patty then tells the story of the gift of Dorothy the cow from members of the Parish and how appreciative they were especially as the family was pressed for money. The reason for the lack of money was that a tenant had left owing money for rent, their man servant had had rheumatic fever for five months and they continued to pay him as well as employing someone else to take his place and their valuable cow, who was in full milk, had died. The family now had only one cow and as they gave away milk to the sick they had had to buy their butter rather than make it. Patty had prayed for a new cow and her prayers had been answered. She ends the letter by discussing the weather, her health and that the Parish have enough money left over from the cow to buy the family a yearling calf.

b. A copy of the letter addressed to my Reverend Anthony Spur Webb and Maria (Patty) Webb, Stockingford Vicarage from Joseph and Anna Neal and Emma Wilson. The writers, in the name of the teachers and a few friends, have gifted the Reverend and his wife a cow, which they will find in their cowshed, as a mark of esteem for their past labourers. The letter continues on in a very religious manner. The cow is named Dorothy.
