Brief Description
a. The letter is addressed to Miss (Mary Flora) Webb from an unknown recipient as the writer's name is difficult to decipher. The address is Bluff Hill, Napier. The writer expresses sorrow that Mary is leaving Matawhero at Christmas, that if she needed a testimonial she only had to ask, that she is a good teacher and that he/she will miss Mary. He/she then asks Mary to let her father (Anthony Spur Webb) know how gratified he/she is regarding (Anthony's) stand on the temperance question and that he has won it for the East Coast. He/she ends by wishing Mary and her parents a Merry Christmas. The letter is dated 21 December 1899.

b. Envelope addressed to Miss Mary Webb, The Vicarage, Gisborne. The stamp on the front is franked Napier 21 December 1899. The stamp on the back is franked Gisborne 23 December 1899.
