Brief Description
a. A reference from John Marshall, the Headmaster of Matawhero School, Gisborne regarding Miss Mary Flora Webb. In the reference John Marshall writes that Mary Webb, the Infant Mistress, informed him that she wished to seek employment in a Gisborne School. She had taught at Matawhero School for six years and had invariably gained a very flattering report from the Inspector for each of her year's work. He writes that: she is a practical teacher who is most reliable, with real teaching ability. She is well acquainted with the most approved methods of imparting instruction and in the discharge of her duties comports herself with a grace and dignity worthy of her profession. The reference is dated, 14 February 1899.
