On the back of the photograph Bessie Spencer has written: Nursing Staff and some of the patients, Lonsdale House, March 1918.
She also names one of the injured as Copperwaite and comments on several other patients prognosis, such as: a bad case or beginning to walk. Bessie is in nursing uniform and is standing at the back seventh from the left. An unidentified man in a white coat is standing directly in front of her.
