On the back of the photograph Bessie Spencer has written: corner of the Big Ward, Lonsdale House.
She also names two of the injured. The gentleman lying in the bed is named Tunnecliffe (difficult to decipher) who she records was a: fine fellow, died lately. The man in the wheelchair is named Copperwaite, 21 years: may not walk again.
