Brief Description
The newspaper cutting is probably from the Waipawa Mail. The article is titled: Farewell to Canon Webb.
The journalist describes a social given on behalf of Reverend Canon Webb and Mrs Webb by the united vestries of Ormondville and Makotuku on Tuesday evening. For several days the ladies of Ormondville and Makotuku had been busily decorating the hall and preparing the supper. When Canon Webb and Mrs Webb arrived they were greeted and taken to seats set aside for them. The evening progressed in an informal manner with Canon Webb chatting to different groups of people. Mrs Webb had for some time been indisposed and was unable to move about so people came to her to talk. Games and music were held throughout the evening, then supper which was followed by speeches. Canon Webb was presented with a purse of sovereigns on behalf of the congregations. Canon Webb then gave a speech of thanks describing the neighbourly friendship and kindness which had been such an important part of his and his family's life in Ormondville. This was followed by further speeches.
