About this object
Photograph postcard showing houses affected by a landslip on Milton Road in Napier following a magnitude 7.2 earthquake centred inland from Cape Turnagain on 9 August 1904.

The photograph has been taken near the foot of Milton Road. In the foreground, a landslip has pushed two timber houses off their foundations. The house on the right has its roof slightly caved in while the house in the middle has lost its boundary fence. Seven onlookers view the scene from the middleground and background. Houses running along Colenso Avenue on the hill above are visible in the background.
