The diary is titled: Diary of a voyage to England in S.S. Athenic and was written by either Alice Frances Webb or Annie Webb who travelled with Auntie Barbara.

In the diary the author records everyday events of the voyage, weather, social engagements and church services. The diary begins 25 April 1904 and finishes 12 June 1904. In the back of the book is a list of passengers. Alongside each name is written where they had come from in New Zealand and very personal and caustic remarks such as: Gladys aged 15 a horrible vulgar child.
