Brief Description
Letter from Bernard Madden to his family in Napier dated 8 July 1944.

Bernard writes about himself and Bill being pulled up on a ballot for a trip to Rome and what they did there. This includes a visit to Lake Albano near Rome and description of the area, return to base and immediately heading back towards Rome, a description of the New Zealand Forces Club in Rome which had been set up in the Hotel Quirinale, a visit to the Altare della Patria, a guided tour of St Peter's and the Vatican, a description of the Piazza, visiting the remains of the Forum and Colosseum and other sights around the city, a detailed description of the Olympic stadium and surrounding areas and a new interest in seeing other cities of the Northern Italy.
