Brief Description
Letter and envelope from Bernard Madden to his family in Napier dated 26 March 1944.

a) Bernard writes about being moved to a hospital in Bari, the train trip to the hospital, the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, a photograph of a girl that looks like his sister Noeline sitting on another man's locker in the hospital, hearing an orchestra event, not receiving any mail as he has been on the move, Pat being in a new POW camp, asking after Uncle Ted and not seeing much action in the area.

Written on National Patriotic Fund Board/On Active Service letterhead.

b) Envelope addressed to Mrs P J Madden, 21 Macdonald Street, Napier, Hawke's Bay. Includes a censor's stamp and postage stamp. Signed by Bernard Madden acknowledging prerequisites of sending post.
